As human beings we make knowledge and meaning in complex and diverse ways. Science is one tool we use to understand the universe we are intertwined with. Science is a really useful and important way we make but is by no means the only way.
I want to challenge how we as society and a culture view science and the institution around science.
As a collective we have accepted textbook science and peer review science as the only valid form of truth and knowledge. We miss so much by taking this narrow view, I hope to explore that here.
I will reflect on how the institution built around science/science education has impacted our culture and society. I will highlight the exclusionary nature of the institution and the effects it has had on social justice.
It will be a space where people can find and understand their place in the science and environmental justice movement.
There will be room to approach really abstract, philosophical concepts about environment, nature, science and knowledge. At the same time I will provide people a concrete place to join and be excited about the work that is required to take care of people and planet.
